Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916 978 5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: February 23, 2012

The Bureau of Reclamation has released final environmental documents on an agreement to provide two years of continued spring “pulse” flows for the San Joaquin River at Vernalis, California.

Reclamation's proposed agreement with the Merced Irrigation District for spring pulse flows, from Lake McClure to the Merced River, will help meet objectives of the San Joaquin River Agreement. The flows during critical times of the year encourage migration of juvenile and adult salmon.

The Draft Environmental Assessment/Initial Study (EA/IS) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) were released for a 15-day public review on January 18, 2012. No comments were received on the document. The Final EA/IS and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.

If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov. For additional information or to request a copy of the Final EA/IS and FONSI, please contact Arlan Nickel at 916-978-¬5061 or anickel@usbr.gov.
