The Bureau of Reclamation and the California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) will hold an event at 10 a.m. today in Auburn, Calif., to celebrate the recent signing of a Managing Partner Agreement for State Parks to manage the Folsom and Auburn State Recreation Areas, which consist of Folsom Lake, Lake Natoma and the Auburn Project Lands, including Lake Clementine.

The agreement serves as the basis for State Parks to continue to provide recreation, visitor services, law enforcement and operation and maintenance at these federal lands for the next 25 years. The Folsom and Auburn State Recreation Areas offer some 53,000 acres of land and waterways extending from the pristine reaches of the upper North and Middle Forks of the American River westward through heavily urbanized settings within the greater Sacramento area.

To be held at the Canyon View Community Center in Auburn at 10 a.m., the celebration will feature speakers Congressman Tom McClintock; Congressman Dan Lungren; Anne Sanger, Senior Policy Advisor for Congresswoman Doris Matsui; State Senator Ted Gaines; Christine Rydell, Senior Field Representative for State Senator Doug LaMalfa; Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Regional Director Don Glaser; State Parks’ Director Ruth Coleman and Northern Division Chief Scott Nakaji; Placer County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Jennifer Montgomery; and Mike Holmes, Auburn City Council Member.

Prior to the event, representatives of some 30 groups and organizations, whose efforts over the past several years have helped Reclamation and State Parks achieve this significant agreement, will sign a certificate celebrating the achievement. To close the celebration, those individuals will join with the speakers for a formal signing ceremony. Copies of the certificate will be provided to all signers to commemorate the event.

Mid-Pacific Regional Director Glaser stated, “The surrounding communities in Placer, El Dorado and Sacramento Counties will realize a direct economic benefit as the public continues to visit the Folsom and Auburn State Recreation Areas and enjoy all that they have to offer. Signing the Managing Partner Agreement establishes certainty for the long-term management of these irreplaceable resources. Additionally, thanks to this Agreement, the public will continue to have opportunities to experience exceptional outdoor recreation as envisioned by President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative.”

“This agreement demonstrates government agencies working together to provide high-quality services to the public,” said Ruth Coleman, Director of California State Parks. “We welcome the financial support of our federal partners, and we look forward to furthering the goals of America’s Great Outdoors.” President Barack Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative is a grassroots approach to protecting our Nation’s lands and waters while connecting Americans to our natural and cultural heritage. The initiative seeks to empower Americans to share in the responsibility to conserve, restore and provide better access to our lands and waters and leave a healthy, vibrant outdoor legacy for generations to come.
