Recreational Facilities at Black Canyon Dam Parks Open for Reservations

The Bureau of Reclamation will be taking reservations for the gazebos and shelter facilities at five parks near Black Canyon Dam. Reservations are currently being accepted for dates between May 21 and August 6, 2012. The day use parks are located adjacent to the Payette River, off State Highway 52, about 5 miles northeast of Emmett, Idaho. The parks will be open for use between May 21 and September 7, 2012.
"The weather is changing and summer will soon be here, so Reclamation wants to make sure the public has an opportunity to reserve the park facilities as soon as possible," said Supervisory Park Ranger Doug Goff of Black Canyon Parks. "We invite anyone who would like to use the gazebos to reserve them in advance."
Reserving a gazebo on-line is easy; simply visit the parks' website at http://www.usbr.gov/pn/blackcanyon/ where instructions on how to make a reservation are published. The website has a calendar that displays dates when each gazebo is available for reservation.
The four day use parks include:
- Black Canyon Park offers two gazebos which can be reserved for $125 each. The day use fee is $5 per vehicle to enter the park. The park also features two new boat docks that are accessible to people with disabilities. The parks hours are from 7 am to 9 pm.
- Wild Rose Park offers one gazebo that can be reserved for $125.
- Cobblestone Park has a shelter that can be reserved for $125.
- Triangle Park offers both day-use and (when leased) overnight camping; however, water and electricity are not available at this site. The group overnight camping fee is $125. Regulations prohibit renting out the entire park at these sites, also a Gem County ordinance prohibits the use of alcohol or having pets at Black Canyon Park. However, a special alcohol event's permit may be obtained for Wild Rose, Cobblestone, or Triangle.
Montour Park, located in the Montour Wildlife Management Area, has overnight camping for $8 per campsite. Tent camping on the lawn is available for $3 per night. Dogs are allowed only on a leash in this Park. There are 18 campsites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Potable water, a dump station and bathrooms are available.

Black Canyon Dam is part of the Boise Project and was constructed between 1922 and 1924. It provides irrigation water to roughly 1,760 farms in Gem and Payette counties. The power plant at the dam generates about 62 million kilowatt hours annually.
