For Release: December 20, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation is decreasing the water flows through Davis Dam to accommodate maintenance and modification requirements of an instrument at a river gauge that measures stream flow near Bullhead City. The reduction begins on December 22, 2011 at about 6 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Over a period of about six hours, the amount of water flowing through Davis Dam will be reduced by about 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs), down from the normal low operating flow for this time of year of about 4,600 cfs.

Additionally, all river users should be aware these reduced river flows and water elevations will affect water levels from Davis Dam to Lake Havasu.

All river users should remember that lower-than-normal river flows may expose or create natural hazards such as moving sandbars, gravel bars, unstable riverbanks, floating or submerged debris, or other unfamiliar obstacles. As always, use caution since navigating on the river during this period can be extremely hazardous.

When the modification work is completed later that day, river levels will begin to return to the normal operating range for December and January.
