Manager Selected for Columbia Basin Job Corps

Peggy Hendren recently was named as the Center Director for the Columbia Basin Job Corps Center in Moses Lake, Washington, according to the Bureau of Reclamation.

Columbia Basin Job Corps Center, provides education, social skills, and vocational training for approximately 250 students at a time. The number of students at any given time fluctuates throughout the year due to graduations and departures.

"I am pleased to announce Peggy's selection for this assignment," said Pacific Northwest Regional Director Bill McDonald. "In addition to bringing more than 10 years of experience with the Job Corps, Peggy brings enthusiasm and a strong commitment to youth," McDonald concluded.

Born in West Virginia, and raised in Ohio, Hendren holds a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational education from Wayland Baptist University. She is also a 21-year veteran of the United States Navy, from which she retired as a senior chief (E-8) hospital corpsman in 1993. During her military career she was named Navy Enlisted Woman of the Year and awarded Navy Achievement and Navy Commendation medals. For the last 10 years she served as the administrative officer for Trapper Creek Job Corps in Darby, Montana. Prior to that she served as a counselor at Trapper Creek for 2 years.

"I firmly believe in the Job Corps Program," she said. "I believe that every Job Corps staff member is a special person who has been given one of the greatest opportunities to affect young people's lives for the good. Along with these opportunities come numerous responsibilities that require dedication and diligence to do our utmost to assist these students in being successful in their careers and with life itself."

The Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 get a better job, make more money and take control of their lives. Columbia Basin Job Corps is one of three Job Corps facilities managed by the Bureau of Reclamation in the Pacific Northwest.
