Humboldt Project Conveyance Draft Environmental Impact Statement Available; Public Hearings Scheduled

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the potential effects of conveying title of the Humboldt Project (Project) and associated lands to the Pershing County Water Conservation District (PCWCD), State of Nevada, Lander County, and Pershing County. The action complies with Title VIII of Public Law 107-282 which directs Reclamation to transfer title of the Project to those entities.

Located along the Humboldt River in northwestern Nevada, the Project covers 83,350 acres and includes Battle Mountain Community Pasture, Rye Patch Dam and Reservoir, and the Humboldt Sink. Project construction began in 1935, and PCWCD assumed operation in 1941. PCWCD has had several Project repayment contracts with Reclamation, all of which have been repaid.

Three public hearings are scheduled in March 2005. The hearings will allow individuals to comment on the DEIS. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
