For Release: October 07, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation, the California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) have released the Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for a stream restoration project on the Upper Truckee River in El Dorado County, California. Proposed is a project to restore a 2.24 mile reach of the Upper Truckee River within Lake Valley State Recreation Area and Washoe Meadows State Park to address its contributions of fine sediment to the river and Lake Tahoe.

The Final EIR/EIS includes responses to all comments received during the public comment period for the Draft EIR/EIS, which ended November 4, 2010. After evaluating the comments on the Draft EIR/EIS, a slightly modified version of Alternative 2 has been identified as the Preferred Alternative.

Reclamation will not make a decision regarding the proposed action until sometime after State Parks issues a Notice of Determination under the California Environmental Quality Act for the Final EIR/EIS. Reclamation will then issue a Record of Decision which will state the action that will be implemented and will discuss all factors leading to the decision.

The State Parks and Recreation Commission and the TRPA Governing Board will each have meetings on the Final EIR/EIS. Dates for these meetings will be posted on the following State Parks website: www.restoreuppertruckee.net. Note: The TRPA meetings in December 2011 will only involve certification of the Final EIR/EIS document and not approval of the project.

The Final EIR/EIS is available for review online. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 (TTY 916-978-5608) or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.
