Following years of planning and collaboration with the Nevada Historic Preservation Office, Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Michael L. Connor today announced the final design/build contract award for the rehabilitation of the two historic Date Street 100 and 200 buildings in Boulder City, Nev. The contract, totaling $7,382,391, was awarded to the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Whiting-Turner's design partner on the project is Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects of Henderson, Nevada.

Whiting-Turner successfully completed the design/build contract for Reclamation's newly constructed Green Building, also located on Reclamation's Date Street campus, which earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. During the Green Building project, more than 220,000 hours of work were provided to area men and women. Commissioner Connor joined Reclamation's Lower Colorado Regional Director Lorri Gray-Lee in dedicating the Green Building project earlier this month.

"We have worked closely with the local community to enhance the two historic Date Street buildings while using modern technology in energy and water conservation in their design and construction," Commissioner Connor said today. "These projects are important to the local community and to Reclamation. They help preserve a piece of Boulder City history and create more jobs in the region."

Using a formula developed in 2009 by the Council of Economic Advisors to calculate the impact of federal investment, the Date Street project could generate about 80 direct and indirect jobs for one year.

The company will design and manage the rehabilitation of the combined 20,000 square-foot Date Street 100 and 200 buildings in close coordination with Reclamation engineers and facilities managers. When completed in late-2012, these buildings will provide office and records management space for Regional employees; and training and conference facilities for use by Reclamation and other federal agencies.
