Reclamation Releases Environmental Documents on Reallocation of Wildlife Refuge Water Supplies

Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916 978 5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: September 26, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation has released environmental documents on a five-year reallocation proposal to deliver up to 10,000 acre-feet of refuge water supply annually from the Sacramento Valley National Wildlife Refuges to the San Joaquin Valley National Wildlife Refuges to maintain wetlands during years when water deliveries are restricted in the San Joaquin Valley.

The potential transfers of refuge water supplies late in the water years of 2012 through 2016 would occur only in years that the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agreed that such transfers would be unlikely to adversely impact the refuges transferring water, and be unlikely to adversely affect threatened and endangered species in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

A Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact may be viewed at the link below. Comments on the documents should be sent to Buford Holt at either 16349 Shasta Dam Boulevard, Shasta Lake, California 9670019-1554 or bholt@usbr.gov by October 26.
