For Release: September 26, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation today announced the availability of the draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed construction of the Merced Irrigation District's Garibaldi and McCoy Canals Water Conservation Project, southwest of Livingston, California.

The primary purpose of the water conservation project would be to reduce seepage loss in the existing Garibaldi and McCoy canals and reduce operational spill into the Merced River via the Garibaldi Canal. Additionally, the project would increase operational efficiency by incorporating a supervisory control and data acquisition system and improve the Merced Irrigation District (MID) distribution system maintenance efficiency.

Reclamation proposes to award MID with a water conservation grant from the CALFED Bay-Delta Program to assist with the canal and system improvements.

The draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and are available online. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.
