Reclamation Announces Seasonal Recreation Area Closures and Hours of Operation at New Melones Lake Facilities

The Bureau of Reclamation's Central California Area Office announces scheduled seasonal closures at New Melones Lake to allow for needed maintenance work and to give the areas' plants, grass and trees a rest period to recover from recreational usage by visitors during the spring and summer months.

Tuttletown Recreation Area

  • The Acorn Campground, Chamise Campground, Fiddleneck Group Camp and Oak Knoll Group Camp will be closed from October 1, 2011, through March 31, 2012. All other locations within the Tuttletown Recreation Area will remain open year-round.
  • From October 1 through November 5, 2011, the Tuttletown gates will be open from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • From November 6, 2011, through March 11, 2012, the Tuttletown gates will be open from 4 a.m.to 9 p.m.

Glory Hole Recreation Area

  • The Ironhorse Campground and the Osprey Point and Buck Brush Day Use Areas will be closed from   October 1, 2011, through March 31, 2012. All other locations within the Glory Hole Recreation Area will remain open year-round.
  • From October 1 through November 5, 2011, the Glory Hole gates will be open from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • From November 6, 2011, through March 11, 2012, the Glory Hole gates will be open from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Visitor Center and Museum

  • The New Melones Lake Visitor Center and Museum will reopen on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, following a 2-week closure for renovations to improve accessibility and bring the facility into further compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Architectural Barriers Act. The renovations were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
  • The Visitor Center and Museum are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Administration Office

  • The New Melones Lake Administration Office, next door to the Visitor Center and Museum, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • When the Visitor Center and Museum are closed, visitors will find maps and other information available at the Administration Office, and Interagency and New Melones Lake annual passes can be purchased there.
