For Release: September 02, 2011

BOULDER CITY, NV. On Monday, September 12, the Bureau of Reclamation is reducing water releases from Davis Dam to 4,600 cubic feet per second (cfs) for approximately 24 hours. River users below the dam should exercise extra caution during this period as this will result in much lower daytime river water levels throughout the Laughlin/Bullhead City area.

Reclamation is lowering the flow to enable a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service contractor to excavate an opening in the riverbank for water to flow into a firebreak canal in Topock Marsh, located approximately 30 miles downstream from Davis Dam.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time on September 12 and continuing until Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., releases from Davis Dam, which can range up to approximately 23,000 cfs during the day, will lower to a steady flow of approximately 4,600 cfs.

River flows will return to normal levels the evening of September 13 unless additional time is needed to complete the Topock Marsh project.
