BOULDER CITY, NV -- The Bureau of Reclamation's Lower Colorado Regional Director Lorri Gray-Lee today announced the selection of David Palumbo as the new Assistant Regional Director. Palumbo begins his new position on August 15, 2011 in the headquarters office in Boulder City, Nevada.

"I'm very glad David is moving into a Regional leadership position with us," said Director Gray-Lee. "He is a problem solver, always bringing creativity and a 'Can Do' attitude to our Reclamation water and power mission activities. He already demonstrates a commitment to improving the skills of our folks and the ability to implement more efficient ways of doing business," Gray-Lee added.

Palumbo began with the Lower Colorado Region in 2005 and most recently served as Regional Engineer. Prior to joining Reclamation, he worked in private industry including ten years with the Kerr-McGee Corporation. Four of those years involved a joint project with Canada's Hydro Quebec where Palumbo managed projects related to water, power and unit operations.

As Reclamation's top engineer in the Region since 2008, David Palumbo managed the development and construction of many challenging projects including $172 million, 8,000 acre-foot Brock Reservoir water storage facility near Yuma, Arizona, and the $17 million "Green" or 1400 office building in Boulder City slated to open in September. Palumbo also provided strategic direction and leadership to approximately fifty Reclamation professionals in the Region's Engineering Services Office managing engineering, contract administration, construction management and safety of dams' activities.

"This is a great opportunity," said Palumbo. "I'm very familiar with Reclamation facilities and offices across the west and believe Reclamation offers the most talented managers and professional expertise anywhere. I really enjoy collaborating on programs and projects and look forward to reaching out to my Reclamation colleagues and the Region's water and power stakeholders to continue our productive relationships."

A graduate of Boulder City High School, David Palumbo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Master of English Literature degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; a Bachelor of English Literature from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from New York's Columbia University.

David Palumbo, his wife Laura and their four children live in Boulder City, Nevada.
