The Bureau of Reclamation will join Utah State Parks in hosting a ribbon cutting event on July 14, 2011 to mark the completion of Phase I recreational rehabilitation work at Starvation Reservoir. The event will take place between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will feature guests from other participating agencies and stakeholders including the Utah State Legislature, the Utah Department of Natural Resources, and Duchesne County.

Significant improvements have been made to boating, camping, and day use facilities within Starvation State Park to enhance visitor access and provide quality recreation opportunities.

New concrete and asphalt surfaces have been constructed for the boat ramp and parking areas; camping and day use area restrooms have been replaced including individual showers; parking areas have been expanded; a new boat preparation area with an access road to the ranger station has been constructed; and new camp sites have been developed with lengthened RV parking and tent-side parking with new shelters and fire rings. The day use area also has new shelters, a concrete walking path, volley ball and horse shoe facilities, and new landscaping. In addition, two feet of new sand has been placed between camp sites and the water front.

Additional improvement work is underway as part of Phase II targeted for completion in October 2011. The work began in 2008 and is being funded through a 50/50 cost-share agreement between Reclamation and the Utah State Parks.

Starvation Dam, located on the Strawberry River three miles northwest of Duchesne, UT, was constructed between 1967-1970 and is part of the Central Utah Project's Bonneville Unit.
