For Release: June 03, 2011

For flood control management, the Bureau of Reclamation will begin increasing Shasta Dam releases today from 9,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) at 5:00 p.m., bringing the total releases from the dam to 20,000 cfs into the Sacramento River by 9:00 p.m. The increased releases are necessary to meet flood space regulatory requirements within the reservoir and will remain at that rate until further notice. Shasta Dam is located about 12 miles north of Redding.

People recreating in or along the Sacramento River should take appropriate safety precautions during periods of high river flows.
