Reclamation Announces Area Rivers Flowing Swift and Cold This Memorial Day Weekend

Media Contact: Pete Lucero, (916) 978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: May 25, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation today encouraged "safety first" this Memorial Day weekend with flows in the American, Sacramento and Stanislaus rivers higher and colder than in recent years due to runoff from above-average rain and snowpack.  Flows in rivers also may be affected by weather conditions and changes in releases due to fluctuating water demands.

Also affected are the Delta Cross Channel Gates, which will remain closed during the holiday weekend due to flows exceeding 30,000 cubic feet per second.  For additional information on the Delta Cross Channel Gates, please visit Reclamation's Central Valley Operations website at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvo/vungvari/dcc_chng.txt or call 916-979-2194 or 916-979-2196.

For details on current releases into rivers, please visit Reclamation's Central Valley Operations website at Midnight Reservoir Elevation and Flows or go to http://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvo/For additional information, please contact Paul Fujitani, Central Valley Operations Office, at 916-979-2197 (TDD 916-979-2183) or e-mail pfujitani@mp.usbr.gov.
