Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: May 11, 2011

The Bureau of Reclamation signed the Record of Decision for the Lake Casitas Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement in April 2011. Implementing the decision will result in the continued operation and maintenance of recreational activities by Casitas Municipal Water District and execution of a new agreement with the district for long-term management of recreation at Lake Casitas.

The Resource Management Plan provides the framework for establishing the new management agreement for about 3,900 acres, including Lake Casitas (2,700 acres) and 1,200 acres of park lands.

Reclamation's decision to implement the Record of Decision (ROD) would allow some enhancement of current recreational uses and public access while protecting water quality and natural and cultural resources.
