Reclamation Releases Environmental Documents for Enterprise Irrigation District Well Development Project

Media Contact: ,

For Release: May 09, 2011

Reclamation has released a Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the Enterprise Irrigation District (EID) Groundwater Well Development Project for public review and comments. The EID project would provide supplemental water supplies to EID in drought years when Reclamation is unable to provide full water deliveries.

Reclamation is proposing to provide funding to EID in compliance with the Reclamation States Emergency Drought Relief Act of 1991 (Drought Act). The Drought Act authorizes emergency response and planning assistance that would minimize and mitigate losses and damages resulting from drought conditions. Consistent with this authority, Reclamation is proposing to use Drought Act funding to fund emergency drought relief projects that can quickly and effectively mitigate the consequences of a drought. The EID Project consists of the construction of one groundwater well and related equipment. The pumped groundwater would be delivered through EID's existing conveyance facilities or district canals and pipelines.

The Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available for public review and comment. The documents may be viewed online http://www.usbr.gov/mp/kbao. To request a copy of the documents, please contact Kristen Hiatt at 541-880-2577 or e-mail khiatt@usbr.gov.

Written comments on the Draft EA/FONSI are due by June 13, 2011, and should be mailed to Kristen Hiatt, Bureau of Reclamation, 6600 Washburn Way, KO-300, Klamath Falls, OR, 97603, e-mailed to khiatt@usbr.gov, or faxed to 541-884-9053.
