Interior Department and State of California to Hold Public Meeting in Sacramento on Bay Delta Conservation Plan

SACRAMENTO, CA-On Monday, April 25, Deputy Secretary of the Interior David J. Hayes and California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird will gather with stakeholders and the public to discuss the continued development of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP), including plans for obtaining public input into the BDCP process. The Department of the Interior and the state of California are committed to moving forward with the development of a habitat conservation plan for the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta that achieves the dual goals of the BDCP-ecosystem restoration and water supply reliability.

Development of the BDCP began in 2006 and has involved the active participation of water contractors and agencies, environmental and conservation organizations, state and federal agencies and other stakeholder groups. The purpose of the BDCP is to provide for the recovery of endangered and sensitive species and their habitats in the Delta in a way that also provides for a reliable water supply.
