On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, the Bureau of Reclamation will increase releases from New Melones Dam into the Stanislaus River from the current 1,300 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 2,000 cfs. The higher releases are necessary to manage the reservoir's flood space and will remain at that rate until further notice.

New Melones Dam and Reservoir are features of the Central Valley Project and are located between Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties, in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Jamestown, California

People recreating in or along the Stanislaus River downstream from New Melones Dam to the confluence of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus Rivers should take appropriate safety precautions.

Daily information on expected flows in the Stanislaus River can be found on the California Data Exchange Center website at http://cdec.water.ca.gov./queryRes.html or from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website at http://www.spk-wc.usace.army.mil/generic/rel_rep_s.html.
