Reclamation Increases Releases from Shasta Dam to the Sacramento River

Click to see a video of the same eventFor flood control management, the Bureau of Reclamation will increase Shasta Dam releases today at 8:00 p.m. by 10,000 cubic feet per second, bringing the total releases from the dam to 50,000 cfs into the Sacramento River. The increased releases are necessary to meet flood space regulatory requirements within the reservoir and will remain at that rate until further notice. Shasta Dam is located about 12 miles north of Redding.

Folsom Dam on the American River will gradually reduce releases on Monday and Tuesday, from 20,000 cfs to 15,000 cfs. Folsom Dam is located about 25 miles east of Sacramento.

People recreating in or along the Sacramento or American rivers should take appropriate safety precautions during periods of high river flows.
