The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $2.5 million construction contract for a new office building for the agency's Upper Snake River Field Office to be located outside the city limits of Heyburn, Idaho.

The contract was awarded to Bateman-Hall, Inc., Idaho Falls, Idaho, on March 23, 2011. The contract calls for building a 10,000 square foot office building and a 2,000 square foot warehouse on about 4 acres located along the 500 block of 21st Street.

About 30 Reclamation employees will relocate from their present office building at 1350 Hansen Avenue, Burley, Idaho, once the new building is completed in November 2012.

The construction standards follow the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system established by the U.S. Green Building Council, and will include upgraded energy-efficient standards for windows, heating and cooling, and use of passive solar designs to let natural light into the workplace.

"The new building is designed to use less energy and to provide a wise use of space for employees to work," said Chris Ketchum, Assistant Area Manager. "We also made sure that many of the materials that go into the building's design are from recycled products."

The Upper Snake Field Office (USFO) manages eight multipurpose dams and reservoirs which provide irrigation water to about 1.2 million acres of land; two wildlife mitigation areas; recreation areas on four reservoirs; and three powerplants with a combined annual generation of 902 million kilowatt-hours supplying enough power for about 62,000 homes. This also includes managing switchyards and transmission lines. Other storage water delivery systems are operated by certain irrigation districts through operation and maintenance contracts. Dams managed by USFO include Minidoka, American Falls, Jackson Lake, Island Park, Palisades, Grassy Lake, Ririe, and Little Wood.
