Reclamation has released a draft environmental assessment for a proposed fish screen in Rifle Creek below Rifle Gap Reservoir, to the public for review and comment.

The draft EA evaluates construction of a fish screen proposed by the Colorado Division of Wildlife to prevent or minimize the movement of non-native fish into endangered fish habitat in the Colorado River via Rifle Creek. The fish screen would assist in the recovery of the endangered Colorado River fish and potentially facilitate management and stocking of a warm water recreational fishery in Rifle Gap Reservoir.

The draft environmental assessment is available online at www.usbr.gov/uc/wcao/ under environmental documents or by contacting Steve McCall with Reclamation at (970) 248-0638 or smccall@usbr.gov.

Reclamation will consider all comments received prior to preparing a final environmental assessment. Comments can be submitted to the email address above or to: Carol DeAngelis, Area Manager, Bureau of Reclamation, 2764 Compass Drive, Suite 106, Grand Junction, CO 81506. Comments are due by April 4, 2011.
