The Bureau of Reclamation is announcing a temporary road closure at Anderson Ranch Dam Road from the cattle guard near the Dixie Borrow area down to the dam crest during daytime construction hours beginning March 14 through May 23.

Construction hours will be Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. During those times, traffic will be directed to the Prairie turnoff, 5 miles south of the Anderson Ranch turnoff. Access for the local residents in the area should not be affected. From Friday through Sunday, the crest of the dam will be open to traffic.

"We are closing this portion of the roadway for public safety reasons related to construction activities," said John Tiedeman, Reclamation Activity Manager. "This closure prohibits all access, including vehicles, pedestrians, and horseback riders during those designated construction hours."

Construction at Anderson Ranch Dam involves raising the dam's crest 4 feet with compacted fill to create a 19 foot one-way travel lane with an asphalt cap. At a later date and under a separate contract Reclamation will oversee the installation of a new traffic control system. PNK Constructors, LLC of Coalville, Utah, was awarded the $386,050 roadway contract on September 20, 2010.

Anderson Ranch Dam is located on the South Fork of the Boise River about 28 miles northeast of Mountain Home, Idaho. Reclamation built the dam in 1950 as part of the Arrowrock Division of the Boise Project. This is a multipurpose facility that provides for irrigation, flood control, hydropower, and recreation.
