Reclamation Selects New Manager for Umatilla Field Office

Boris BelchoffThe Bureau of Reclamation has selected Boris Belchoff to serve as the Umatilla Field Office Manager in Hermiston, Ore. He replaces Mike Bommer who accepted the position of Program Coordinator for the Columbia-Cascades Area Office (CCAO) in Yakima, Wash.

Belchoff began his federal career as the Administrative Officer for CCAO in 2004. Before coming to Reclamation, he served in the U.S. Navy in various capacities that included nuclear power plant operations, budget management at an overseas NATO base, and management of all services on an aircraft carrier.

"Boris brings a wealth of management experience to the position from his 20 year naval career and as the CCAO Administrative Officer for the last six and half years. Boris will assume his new duties on March 27, 2011," said Bill Gray, CCAO Manager.

Belchoff received a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts/Psychology from Excelsior College in Albany, NY., and a Master of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

The Umatilla Project is divided into three divisions; the East Division serving the Hermiston Irrigation District; the West Division serving the West Extension Irrigation District; and the South Division which includes the Stanfield and Westland irrigation districts. Features of the Project include Cold Springs Dam, Feed Canal Diversion Dam, Maxwell Diversion Dam, Three Mile Falls Diversion Dam, West Extension Main Canal, and McKay Dam.
