Reclamation Increases Releases to the Lower American River for Flood Control Management of Folsom Reservoir

Interactive thumb of Folsom Dam releasing water for flood control management - click on the thumb for a larger viewToday, Tuesday, March 1, 2011, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., the Bureau of Reclamation will increase releases from Folsom Dam to the lower American River from 2,500 to 8,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) for flood control management. The increased releases will remain at 8,000 cfs until further notice.

People recreating in or along the lower American River downstream of Folsom Dam to the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers should take appropriate safety precautions during periods of high river flows.

The release schedule addresses requirements set by the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency flood protection agreement.
