For Release: December 17, 2010

Reclamation announces release of the Public Scoping Report and a newsletter for the proposed Arkansas Valley Conduit and Long Term Excess Capacity Master Contract Environmental Impact Statement. The report and newsletter are available at www.usbr.gov/avceis.

The Public Scoping Report summarizes the public scoping process that ran July 30 - Sept. 13, 2010. The scoping process marked the beginning of Reclamation's environmental review of the proposed conduit and Master Contract and provided the first opportunity for the public to comment on both proposals. The Public Scoping Report reviews, among other things, the public meetings held in Aug., the number of public comments received and the nature of those comments.

The Arkansas Valley Conduit would be a feature of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project and provide treated water to communities in southeastern Colorado. The Master Contract would be a long-term contract issued by Reclamation to the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District for storage of water in Fryingpan-Arkansas Project reservoirs.

Reclamation is preparing an environmental impact statement in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
