For Release: December 14, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation has resumed the winter schedule for free guided tours at Shasta Dam. All tours are conducted at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., but Reclamation suggests calling to confirm times and availability. Free tickets may be picked up at the Shasta Dam Visitor Center. We suggest arriving to the visitor center 30 minutes prior to the tour time in order to get the tickets and make the short walk to the tour elevator. Each tour is limited to 40 people. No weapons, bags, or electronic devices of any kind, with the exception of cell phones and cameras, are permitted on the tour; these security guidelines are strictly enforced.

The visitor center is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. A free video version of the tour is available in the auditorium, along with displays and exhibits explaining the dam's construction. A gift shop is on site.

For more information, please contact the Shasta Dam Visitor Center at 530-275-4463 or visit the website at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ncao/.
