The work on Pineview Dam is very near completion. The renovation work at the dam-site was due to be completed at the start of November 2004, but heavy rains washed away newly seeded topsoil from some of the stabilization berm, requiring re-seeding of its slopes. Engineers expect to be finished with remaining punch-list items this week. However, due to recent cold weather, there may be some minor items that will not be completed until next Spring.

The work at Pineview has consisted of three contracts. The first, beginning in July 2002, involved the strengthening of the spillway by reinforcing the gate structure with steel plates and struts. The spillway was further strengthened with a series of rock and anchor bolts that tied the spillway to the adjacent bedrock. The contractor was CM Concrete of Blanding, Utah.

The second, beginning in February 2003, involved the relocation of a 42 inch pipe from the outlet works of the dam which supplies water to a downstream power plant. The pipe was moved to allow the subsequent placement of the stabilizing berm. The contractor was Chung & Associates of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The last contract, which began in May of 2004, finished the raising of the zoned embankment as well as the construction of a downstream berm for the dam. The contractor was W.W. Clyde of Springville, Utah.

Pineview Dam is part of the Ogden River Project, and was built in 1937. It is located 7 miles east of Ogden, Utah and is a zoned, earth-fill structure with a crest length of 600 feet and a structural height of 137 feet. The dam has a total capacity of 152,000 acre-feet and provides municipal and irrigation water to communities between the mouth of Ogden Canyon and the Great Salt Lake.
