For Release: November 09, 2010

In honor of Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010, the Bureau of Reclamation's Central California Area Office will waive day use fees at New Melones Lake for all visitors.  This is a small gesture in honor of the men and women of the U.S. military who have given so much.

Veteran's Day and National Public Lands Day in September are the only 2 days when entrance fees are waived nationwide.  The waiver of entrance fees and/or standard amenity fees on Veterans Day applies annually to public recreation lands under the management of the Department of the Interior, including the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Reclamation.  The U.S. Forest Service, under the Department of Agriculture, also participates.  Expanded amenity fees, including boat launching, camping and all other fees, still apply.

Please visit New Melones Lake for a day of outdoor recreation this Veterans Day.  For additional information about New Melones Lake and the New Melones Visitor Center and Museum, please visit their website or call the Visitor Center at 209-536-9543 (TTY 800-877-8339).

The New Melones Visitor Center and Museum are located on Highway 49, between the towns of Sonora and Angels Camp, just ¼ mile south of the Highway 49 Stevenot Stanislaus River Bridge (6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370).  The Visitor Center and Museum are open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Map
