The Klamath Basin Area Office (KBAO) announced today that additional funds will be provided to irrigators in the Langell Valley Irrigation District (LVID). The money will be used to increase the amount LVID irrigators received for land idling during the drought of 2010. The additional funds, along with previous relief funds from the Klamath Water and Power Agency (KWAPA), will bring the total amount paid to LVID irrigators to approximately $100 per acre. Reclamation understands that drought relief will not replace water availability, but this assistance may help many of the contractors avoid devastating financial losses from the current natural drought situation.

Sue Fry, KBAO Area Manager, is hopeful the additional funding will help those most affected by the drought. "We have been working since early in the water year to provide funding for our contractors. This water year, although difficult and challenging, would have been much worse without the cooperation and assistance of the irrigation districts on the Klamath Project," she said.

KWAPA will administer the program and LVID irrigators may call 541-850-2503 for information.
