For Release: October 05, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation has closed public access to parking at Mormon Island Cove, near Sophia Parkway, due to seismic safety improvement work on the Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam.  Access to the lake near Mormon Island Cove is still available from other points.

The project, and a second one planned at the Mormon Island Auxiliary Dam (MIAD), are expected to continue through fall 2014.  The construction is part of the overall, ongoing Safety of Dams program at Folsom Lake.

Pedestrian and bicycle access is still available at the Sophia Parkway and Green Valley Road intersection.  Parking for walks, biking and riding horses is available from Folsom Point across the crest of MIAD and from Browns Ravine via the trail between Browns Ravine and Mormon Island Cove.  Construction, however, may require brief closures of these access points.

If you have any questions, please contact Chelsea Stewart at the Bureau of Reclamation, 916-989-7155, TTY 916-989-7285 or e-mail cstewart@usbr.gov.  Information on the overall work at Folsom Dam may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/jfp/index.html.
