For Release: September 29, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation has modified tours of Shasta Dam six days a week through at least November 2010, temporarily not allowing visitors inside the structure due to maintenance work on the Spillway Bridge.  On Sundays, tours will include the usual visit inside the dam.

The modified tours Monday through Saturday include presentations in the auditorium and walks on the dam, to the east tower.  Visitors learn about construction of the dam, power generation, and history of the area and overall Central Valley Project water supply system.

On Sunday, tours include trips inside the dam and powerplant, along with historical information.

All tours are scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., but Reclamation suggests calling to confirm times and availability.

A visitor center is open year-round, 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A free video version of the tour is available, along with displays and exhibits.

For more information, please contact the Shasta Dam Visitor Center at 530-275-4463 or visit the website: http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ncao/.
