For Release: September 24, 2010

Visitors to Pinewood Reservoir and residents along West County Road 18E and Pole Hill Road should expect to begin seeing construction traffic the week of September 27, 2010. The construction traffic, which will include lead and follow cars, is anticipated to last through October 2010.

Precast Concepts, a contractor working with Reclamation, has begun staging work for the Pole Hill Canal, an open canal, which runs near the top of Pole Hill Road. Residents and visitors to the area will likely notice construction traffic including a 75-ton crane and other earthwork equipment being transported up the hill.

Beginning September 27, the contractor will begin delivering 18x10x6 foot box culverts in a series of four-truck convoys, which will make the trip four times a day over the next month. The large trucks will require both traffic lanes to safely navigate the switchbacks up to Pinewood Reservoir and the tight curves of Pole Hill Road.

Lead and follow cars will travel with the trucks, temporarily halting traffic at the tighter curves.

The contractor is working with published school bus routes to ensure bus schedules are not impacted. Provisions will also be in place for any emergency vehicles that might have to use the roads during the construction hauling.

Reclamation will be rebuilding the Pole Hill Canal with pre-cast box culverts, placed end-to-end, creating a more efficient water conduit. The canal is a feature of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project that carries water from Olympus Tunnel to the Pole Hill Power Plant.
