Reclamation Releases Environmental Documents on Removing Ditch Rider Houses

The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review an Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact which analyzes the effects of demolishing and removing five ditch rider houses and outbuildings in Churchill County, Nevada. The land will either be relinquished to the Bureau of Land Management or sold as excess property through the General Services Administration.

The ditch rider houses were built to provide housing for the operators of the irrigation facilities on the Newlands Project. They are to be removed because they are no longer used or needed, in disrepair, and pose hazards.

The Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/Draft FONSI) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The documents may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=6339. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 (TDD 916-978-5608) or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.

Written comments on the EA/Draft FONSI are due by Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, and should be mailed to Andrea Minor, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 N. Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015. Comments may also be faxed to Ms. Minor at 775-882-7592 or e-mailed to aminor@usbr.gov.
