Adaptive Management Work Group to Meet in Phoenix, AZ on Colorado River Topics

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will meet on August 24 - 25, 2010 in Phoenix, Ariz., to address topics related to the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program. The AMWG committee provides a forum for discussion of topics related to the operation of Glen Canyon Dam and ongoing monitoring of resource conditions downstream of the dam.

This meeting will focus on several primary topics including: the fiscal year 2011-2012 budget and work plan, the Desired Future Conditions for the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program narrative outline, water year 2011 operating hydrograph recommendations, and evaluation of a temperature control device at Glen Canyon Dam and sediment augmentation below the dam for recovery of native fish.

A number of additional briefings and updates will also be provided to the AMWG including: sediment and ecological modeling, basin hydrology and operations, developmental status of environmental compliance documents, potential development of a database to provide an administrative history of the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program, near-shore ecology, and synthesis of the effects of the three high-flow experiments at Glen Canyon Dam The AMWG is a federal advisory committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River Basin states, Native American Tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests, and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The Secretary receives recommendations on how to best protect downstream resources and balance river operations through the varied stakeholder interests represented by the AMWG.

The meeting will be held over a two-day period at the BLM National Training Center, Building A, 9828 North 31st Avenue, Phoenix, Ariz. The meeting will begin on August 24 at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:45 p.m. The meeting will run from 8:00 a.m. until 2:50 p.m. on August 25.
