Sacramento River Salmonid Spawning Gravel Augmentation Program Gets Under Way

The Bureau of Reclamation will begin placing salmonid spawning gravel in the Sacramento River approximately a ¼ mile downstream of Keswick Dam on Tuesday, August 24, 2010.  Non-interactive mapping showing the gravel placement location on the Sacramento River by the Keswick ReservoirThe work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and will be completed on or before September 8, 2010. 

The project will place approximately 5,500 tons of gravel into the river to help improve spawning habitat for Chinook salmon and steelhead.  This Reclamation project is being funded by the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) and helps meet requirements of Section 3406(b)(13) of the CVPIA, a program to restore and replenish spawning gravel and rearing habitat for salmonid species.
