For Release: August 13, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review and comment a Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed implementation of a stream restoration project on Rosewood Creek in Washoe County, Nevada.

The project would restore stream conditions in Middle Rosewood Creek, a branch of Third Creek, in the Lake Tahoe Basin within Incline Village.  The restoration project would address a substantial source of sediment to Lake Tahoe as a result of channel erosion prompted by historic and continuing watershed and site-specific effects on hydrology and sediment due to human activities.  The project would restore ecological processes and aquatic and riparian habitat quality, and would reduce the creek's discharge of nutrients and sediment that affect Lake Tahoe's water quality.

The Nevada Tahoe Conservation District is managing the project, and Reclamation is providing grant funds to the district for project engineering, design and environmental compliance.

The Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for public review and comment.  The documents may be viewed online.  If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 (TDD 916-978-5608) or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.

Written comments on the Draft EA/FONSI are due by Friday, August 27, 2010, and should be mailed to Myrnie Mayville, Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 4310, Stateline, NV 98449, e-mailed mmayville@usbr.gov, or faxed to 775-588-4547.  To request a copy of the documents or for additional information, please contact Ms. Mayville at 775-589-5240.
