For Release: August 13, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation today released a Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact on an exchange of Arvin-Edison Water Storage District supplies in the Central Valley Project with Metropolitan Water District's State Water Project supplies.

Up to 40,000 acre-feet of Arvin-Edison Water Storage District (AEWSD) 2010 and 2011 Central Valley Project supplies are being proposed for exchange with Metropolitan Water District (MWD) for a similar amount of MWD's banked State Water Project supplies now stored within AEWSD's groundwater bank.  The exchange would reduce energy use and operation costs, and provide overall water management flexibility to AEWSD.

The exchange's timing, subject to approval of the State Water Resources Control Board, would be completed by February 28, 2012.

The Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available online.  If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.

Written comments must be received by close of business Thursday, August 26, 2010, and should be sent to Michael Inthavong, Bureau of Reclamation, South-Central California Area Office, 1243 N Street, Fresno, Calif., 93721.  Comments may also be faxed to Mr. Inthavong at 559-487-5194 or e-mailed to minthavong@usbr.gov.
