Reclamation Seeks Public Comments on Plan to Rehabilitate Portions of the San Carlos Irrigation Project

The Bureau of Reclamation has issued a draft Environmental Assessment to solicit public comments on a proposal to repair Ashurst-Hayden Diversion Dam and construct a sediment processing and storage facility adjacent to the headworks of the Florence-Casa Grande Canal. The project is located near the town of Florence in Pinal County, Ariz. The diversion dam and canal are part of the San Carlos Irrigation Project, which conveys water to agricultural lands on the Gila River Indian Community and to the San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District (SCIDD). The project will be implemented by SCIDD with funds provided by the Bureau of Reclamation. Construction will be phased over a two-year period beginning in October 2010.
