MILLS, Wyo. - The Bureau of Reclamation's Wyoming Area Office continues to monitor Glendo Dam and Dikes, located about 70 miles east of Casper, Wyo., advising that due to continued snowmelt runoff and recent rainfall events, filter materials consisting of sand and gravel are being stockpiled near the facility as a precautionary measure.

"We're working very closely with our partners and local communities to manage the sheer volume of water from snow melt runoff and precipitation that we're currently experiencing in Wyoming," said Lawson. "As a precautionary measure, we are stockpiling sand and gravel at the base of the dikes as well as near Glendo Dam, in the event we may need to apply some additional filter material on the face of the dam and dikes. We are remaining vigilant with increased monitoring during this period of high water levels."

The facilities are currently being monitored on a daily basis. Reclamation is collecting and analyzing data to ensure the dam and dikes are performing within prescribed parameters.

Glendo Reservoir remains in the exclusive flood control pool and the water surface is expected to rise up to one more foot, to an elevation of 4649 feet by July 4, before starting to decline. The reservoir is anticipated to remain in the flood control pool until early August. Water releases from the reservoir's flood pool are regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in close coordination with Reclamation.

The release from Glendo Reservoir is currently about 4,800 cfs. Based on the current forecast, the releases from Glendo and Guernsey Reservoirs are expected to be gradually increased to 6,700 cfs in early July, as irrigation demands increase.

Glendo Dam and Reservoir is a multi-purpose facility providing supplemental irrigation supply, hydropower generation, municipal and industrial water, recreation, fish and wildlife enhancement and flood control.
