For Release: June 11, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Sonoma County Water Agency, acting as administrator for the North Bay Water Reuse Authority, today announced the availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report for the North San Pablo Bay Water Restoration and Reuse Project, authorized for construction under Section 1651 of Public Law 102-575, as amended by Section 9110 of Public Law 111-11.  The proposed regional wastewater reuse project will enable the North Bay Water Reuse Authority to recycle treated wastewater and distribute it for agricultural, urban, and environmental uses rather than discharging it to San Pablo Bay.

The area involved encompasses 318 square miles of land in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties.  The proposed action is the Phase I Implementation Plan under Alternative 1, which would construct facilities to provide 3,757 acre-feet of recycled water.  The Sonoma County Water Agency, as the Lead Agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), certified as complete the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)/ Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project on December 8, 2009.

The Final EIS/EIR was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and CEQA and is available online or www.nbwra.org.  If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please contact 916-978-5100 or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.  After the Final EIS/EIR 30-day circulation, Reclamation will prepare a Record of Decision.

The Final EIS/EIR may also be viewed at Reclamation's Regional Library, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento; the Sonoma County Water Agency, 404 Aviation Blvd., Santa Rosa; and at libraries in Sonoma County.

Copies of the Final EIS/EIR may be requested from Marc Bautista, SCWA, at 707-547-1998 or mbautista@scwa.ca.gov.  For additional information, please contact David White, Reclamation, at  916-978-5074 (TTY 916-978-5608), dwhite@usbr.gov, or Mr. Bautista.
