For Release: June 09, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will continue to increase the stream flows on the Boise River as part of flood control releases that began on June 7.

Flows from Lucky Peak Dam will increase by about 2,000 cubic feet per second on June 10, when the flows through Boise will be near 6,000 cfs at the Glenwood Bridge. The recent wet storm systems moving through the Boise River basin and a filling reservoir system have resulted in the need for further reservoir releases.

Flows of 6,500 cfs at Glenwood Bridge is considered bank full, and flood stage is 7,000 cfs. Flows at the Glenwood Bridge reached 6,040 cfs in June 2009.

The public should be aware of the danger associated with these increased flows. The water is deep, velocities are high, and water temperatures are near 45 degrees. Extreme caution should be used near the river banks.

Current water storage in Boise River reservoirs is about 96 percent of capacity. A full supply of water for irrigation is anticipated.
