The Bureau of Reclamation will host the first of several contract negotiation meetings with the Mancos Water Conservancy District on April 22, for the Jackson Gulch Rehabilitation Project, authorized by Public Law 111-11. The contract to be negotiated is for the rehabilitation of the Jackson Gulch Inlet Canal and Outlet Canal and the replacement of the operation facilities for Reclamation's Mancos Project.

The Mancos Project is an off-stream reservoir project in southwestern Colorado that was completed in 1948. It consists of Jackson Gulch Dam, a 10,000 acre-foot reservoir, an inlet canal, and an outlet canal. The project provides supplementary irrigation water for approximately 13,746 acres and municipal and industrial water for the town of Mancos, the surrounding area, and Mesa Verde National Park. Responsibility for operation and maintenance of project facilities was transferred to the MWCD by contract in 1963. The Mancos Project is more than 60 years old and many features are reaching the end of their design life and in need of rehabilitation. The purpose of the negotiation meeting is to address expectations of both parties and identify any major fundamental concerns or issues identified in the draft contract. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mancos Library at 111 N. Main, Mancos, Colorado. The meeting will be open to public attendance and will conclude with a public comment period
