Guide Rock Diversion Dam Leased to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Bureau of Reclamation's Superior-Courtland Diversion Dam, more commonly known as the Guide Rock Diversion Dam has been leased to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (Commission) for management as a State Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The newly designated WMA will be known as the Guide Rock Diversion WMA. The Guide Rock Diversion WMA is located on the Republican River 1.5 miles south and 2.5 miles west of Guide Rock, Nebraska. The WMA contains approximately 485 acres of Republican River bottomland habitat.

The Nebraska and Kansas Bostwick Irrigation Districts are responsible for operations and maintenance activities for the diversion dam and associated canals. The irrigation districts will continue to manage and maintain approximately 35 acres of land encompassing the main diversion structure, canals, and associated facilities.

Effective immediately, all State of Nebraska regulations governing activities at WMA's are in effect at the Guide Rock Diversion WMA. Of special importance at Guide Rock WMA is an awareness of prohibited activities such as, the construction and use of permanent tree stands, the use of off road vehicles, and driving motorized vehicles off of established roads. There are restrictions governing certain activities such as swimming, camping, and dog training. In addition, there are restrictions regarding the use of portable tree stands, waterfowl blinds, and fire. Reclamation has experienced a high level of vandalism and illegal dumping at the diversion dam. Persons who have information regarding these crimes may receive up to a $25,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender(s).
