Reclamation to host March 23 public meeting on Colorado River Basin Water Supply and Demand Study; will be webinar also

The Bureau of Reclamation will conduct a public meeting on the Colorado River Basin Water Supply and Demand Study in Las Vegas, Nev., on Tuesday, March 23rd to provide information, receive feedback, and answer questions about this comprehensive, two-year study to analyze current and future water supplies and demands within the Colorado River Basin.

The meeting will include presentations on the study objectives, structure, schedule, public involvement plan, and possible approaches for Phase 1 (current and future water supply assessment) and Phase 2 (current and future water demand assessment) of the study.

The meeting will be broadcast on the Internet via an interactive webinar so individuals who cannot attend the meeting can view the presentations, submit questions, and offer feedback.

The study will define current and future imbalances in water supply and demand in the Colorado River Basin and the adjacent areas of the Basin States that receive Colorado River water for approximately the next 50 years. It will also include an analysis of adaptation and mitigation strategies to resolve those imbalances.

The Bureau of Reclamation's Upper Colorado and Lower Colorado Regions, in collaboration with representatives of the seven Colorado River Basin States, are funding the study, which is being conducted under Reclamation's Basin Study Program as authorized by Title IX, Subtitle F of Public Law 111-11, the SECURE Water Act. The Study's estimated $2 million cost will be equally shared by the Basin States and Reclamation.
