Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: March 16, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review the Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) to award Tulare Irrigation District (TID) with a Challenge Grant to help fund the construction of a 37-acre recharge/regulation basin (Plum Basin).  Plum Basin would regulate water supplies and enhance flexibility in TID's water distribution system by reducing water spillage due to fluctuations in irrigation cycles.  In addition, the project would benefit both TID and the city of Tulare by recharging water supplies to the underlying aquifer.

The Draft EA/FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available here.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.
