For Release: March 15, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking comments on draft funding criteria for the Title XVI Program. Reclamation invites comments from the public, not-for-profit organizations, other federal agencies and state, local and tribal governments.

These funding criteria will be used for the fiscal year 2011 Title XVI funding opportunity as outlined last month in the President's budget request. Once the comments have been evaluated, revisions to the criteria will be incorporated. The draft criteria are located at www.usbr.gov/WaterSMART/title.html.

Reclamation will utilize a listserve to provide updates during the development of these criteria as well as to share other news about the Title XVI Program. Anyone interested in being part of this new distribution group is invited to join by sending a blank email to join-titlexvi@listserver.usbr.gov.

Title XVI is an important part of the U.S. Department of the Interior's WaterSMART Program which seeks to achieve a sustainable water strategy to meet the nation's water needs. Title XVI projects have the potential to stretch water supplies using both time-tested methodologies and piloting new concepts. Reclamation seeks public input to make the program as effective as possible in contributing to this overall strategy.

Written comments on the draft criteria will be accepted through April 16, 2010. Send your comments to: Bureau of Reclamation, Attn: Dean Marrone, 84-52000; PO Box 25007; Denver, CO 80225-0007. Comments may also be submitted electronically to dmarrone@usbr.gov.
