For Release: February 04, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation will accept reservations for gazebos and picnic shelters at parks near Black Canyon Dam starting February 8. The parks are located off of State Highway 52, about 5 miles northeast of Emmett, Idaho. Early reservations are recommended for the recreation season which runs May 10 through September 17, 2010.

"The weather is changing and summer will soon be here, so Reclamation wants to ensure that the public has an opportunity to reserve some of our facilities as soon as possible," says Park Ranger Doug Goff. "We highly recommend that those who would like to use the gazebos to reserve them in advance."

Reserving a gazebo can be done on-line at http://www.usbr.gov/pn/blackcanyon. The website also displays a calendar showing the dates that the gazebos are available. Regulations prohibit reserving an entire park.

The five parks include:

- Black Canyon Park with two gazebos that can be reserved for $125 each. There is a day-use fee of $5. This year the park has two new boat docks at the boat ramp that are accessible to people with disabilities. No alcohol or pets allowed in this park. - Wild Rose Park has one gazebo that can be reserved for $125. - Cobblestone Park has a shelter that can be reserved for $125. - Triangle Park, located upstream of Black Canyon Dam, offers both day-use and group overnight camping; however, water, and electricity are not supplied. The group overnight camping fee is $125. - Montour Park, located in the Montour Wildlife Management Area, has overnight camping for $8 per campsite, and primitive tent camping for $3. There are 18 spaces available on a first-come, first-serve basis and potable water, a dump station, and bathrooms are available. Dogs are permitted, but must be leashed at all times. Alcohol use is permitted at Montour Park.

A special alcohol events permit is required at Wild Rose, Cobblestone, and Triangle in order to comply with a Gem County ordinance and dogs are not permitted in these parks. Black Canyon and the other day-use parks are open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. For additional information, please call (208) 365-2682.

Black Canyon Dam, constructed between 1922 and1924, provides irrigation water to roughly 1,760 acres in Gem and Payette counties. The dam's power plant generates about 62 million kilowatt hours annually.
