For Release: February 01, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will meet on February 3 - 4, 2010 in Phoenix, Ariz., to address topics related to the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program. The AMWG committee provides a forum for discussion of topics related to the operation of Glen Canyon Dam and ongoing monitoring of resource conditions downstream of the dam.

The primary focus of this meeting will be a discussion about the 2008 high flow experiment results and development of a high flow experimental protocol as announced by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on December 10, 2009. This meeting, which is open to the public, will provide scoping information for the National Environmental Policy Act environmental assessment that will be used to evaluate the effects of the protocol. Scoping is scheduled to take place on February 3, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. and last for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Individuals wishing to provide oral statements will be asked to register and limit their oral comments to 2 ½ minutes. Written statements will also be accepted.

A number of additional updates and briefings will also be provided to the AMWG at the meeting including: non-native fish control planning, fall steady-flow plan, Tribal issues, and desired future conditions. The AMWG is a federal advisory committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River Basin states, Native American Tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests, and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The Secretary receives recommendations on how to best protect downstream resources and balance river operations through the varied stakeholder interests represented by the AMWG.

The meeting will be held over a two day period at the Radisson Hotel Phoenix, 3600 N. 2nd Avenue, Phoenix, Ariz. The meeting will begin on February 3 at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:35 p.m. MST; and will run from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. MST on February 4.
